SECONDARY COMPREHANDSIVE SCHOOL HRISTO BOTEV
The year was 1890 – the first school in our town opened its doors to welcome its first students. All the local officials raised money to help the school. Its first teacher was Vladimir Hlebarov. In the time of the Balkan wars the school was closed because it was used as a barracks. In 1913 a Romanian regiment squatted in it, plundered it, ruined the building and then left. In 1915, a decision was made to open the school again. Nowadays the local kids still study in it. One of our most important years was 1923. That year our school was given the name Hristo Botev. For its patron festival the 2nd of June was chosen. In connection with the 70th anniversary the primary school was given the order ‘Kiril and Metodii’ – first class and a money award of 4,000lv. The school year 1984/85 started with 61 teachers, 1131 students and a new director – Tatyana Docheva. In 1990 was the 100th anniversary of the school; the school was awarded 30,000 leva by a representative from the Ministry of Education. In 1999 a new division was established – ‘Informatics to strengthen the studying of English’ and in 2006 a division – ‘Market economics’. During the last few years Hristo Botev has won a lot of projects, certificates for participation in international competitions and public recognition. Some of these projects are: 1. “Monitoring of the Traditional Birds” – 2006Members of the School’s Ekoclub have studied the local traditional birds and the effect of human activities on biodiversity. 2. “ Youth of The EU”ATTEMP- Youths Attitudes Towards EU Membership. 3. “To Return the Life in the Town’s Park”Activity: Cleaning up and repairing of parks in Kubrat. 4. “The Green Wealth of Kubrat” – 2008 The members of the project planted over 3000 trees, cleaned local polluted areas, examined the soils of the region and were instructed how to deal with environmental problems.
